GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Coordinates and facilitates all aspects of the new patient intake process for a busy hematology/oncology practice. Serves as the primary point of contact for new patients, referring providers, and internal clinical staff to ensure timely, accurate, and compassionate onboarding into care. Responsibilities include gathering medical records, verifying insurance, scheduling consultations, and ensuring all required documentation is complete prior to the patient's first appointment. Work is performed in an office setting and involves frequent contact with patients who may be seriously ill. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick patients and sensitive health information.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of medical office procedures and referral coordination processes. Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly hematology and oncology terminology, preferred. Understanding of insurance verification. Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation to accurately input patient and referral information. Skilled in operating a computer, facsimile, scanning and photocopy machine. Skilled in using electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management systems. Skilled in answering telephone calls in a pleasant, professional, and compassionate manner. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers, referral sources, employees, and the public. Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism. Ability to be on time and ready to work. Minimum one-year experience in a medical office required; oncology experience strongly preferred.
