Job Description

Potomac River Clinic (PRC) is accepting applications for an Audiology Externship starting in June 2027 through early May 2028.
Application Deadline:
4:00pm EST September 16, 2026. PRC provides clinical services to the greater Washington, DC area, in addition to serving The River School , an independent school with an inclusion program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our mission is to equip children with hearing loss and their families with a foundation for lifelong learning through listening and spoken language. Our audiologists work closely with educators, speech pathologists, and psychologists to address the speech, language, and hearing needs of the students with hearing loss. The audiology program provides a full range of diagnostic and rehabilitative services for patients across the lifespan, with a primary focus on pediatric care. Services include natural sleep auditory brainstem response testing, behavioral hearing evaluations, hearing aid and cochlear implant evaluations and programming, as well as patient and family counseling. As an Audiology Extern, you will be responsible for the following: to assist with all audiological services provided through The Potomac River Clinic and The River School; to assist in cochlear implant and hearing aid selection, programming, verification, troubleshooting, and consultation; to maintain records and write reports; to assist in school-wide hearing screenings; to assist with the parent support group and the Parent-Infant Program; to train and educate school personnel in the field of audiology; to assist with data collection for various research grants; to assist in in-service, community outreach, classroom audio distribution systems (CADS) set-up, and consultations at schools around the DC area; to assist with billing and reimbursement A significant desire to work with a pediatric population is essential. Previous pediatric experience and cochlear implant experience are required, in addition to excellent clinical knowledge and confident clinical decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to establish quick rapport with children and families are critical.
