Job Description

Category Schools - Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist Job Type Contract Specialist positions are available for the 2026-2027 school year serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across multiple locations in Illinois. Interviews are ongoing, and candidates are also considered for immediate placement during the current school year. These full-time itinerant roles involve delivering tailored instruction that meets individual students' hearing levels and communication preferences. Specialists will support students' development of listening, speech, language, and communication competencies while modifying curricular materials to ensure accessibility, such as implementing visual supports and captions.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing direct and consultative services aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Monitoring and documenting student progress toward IEP goals
  • Assisting in the use and upkeep of hearing assistive technologies like hearing aids and FM/DM systems
  • Collaborating with educators, families, and support staff to promote effective communication and learning Openings are available in these locations:
  • Freeport, IL — Itinerant K-12, full time
  • Ogle County, IL — Itinerant K-12, full time
  • Hampshire, IL — Itinerant Ideal candidates will have experience working as a Teacher or Specialist for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and a strong commitment to adapting instructional methods to support diverse communication needs.
