2 is seeking a current full-time Grade 4 Secretary to provide customer service and join the Hearing and Vision program team as a back-up staff technician. This individual must enjoy working with children. You would maintain your current supervisor but work closely with the Hearing and Vision team. This position combines essential clerical support with direct community engagement to improve health outcomes by screening children for hearing and vision health. As a key member of a multidisciplinary public health team, you will help address social determinants of health, reduce barriers to care, and promote overall well-being through outreach and education. Key Responsibilities
- Perform administrative support tasks, including faxing, organizing, filing, processing mailings, and electronically scanning documents.
- Provide customer service in the Environmental Health department and clinical appointment scheduling.
- Conduct anthropometric measurements and health screenings, including hearing and vision, in accordance with public health program requirements and applicable training.
- Manage hearing and vision screening caseloads and coordinate appropriate follow-up and referrals for clients and families.
- Operate and maintain hearing and vision screening equipment and other approved testing tools.
- Collaborate with schools and preschools to support compliance with MDHHS minimum program and accreditation requirements.
- Assist in identifying client needs and connecting individuals and families to community resources that address social determinants of health.
- Apply effective conflict resolution skills when addressing client concerns in a respectful and objective manner.
- Maintains accurate patient records, client information and billing within identified electronic health systems.
- Onsite attendance with the ability to independently travel as needed.
- Follow all the agency and program specific policies and procedures.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance with fidelity to workplace privacy and confidentiality.
- Delivery of services and communications, internal and external, in a nonjudgmental, culturally competent manner
- Attend staff meetings, conferences, workshops, and training as required
- Collaborate with diverse and interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrates basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
What We're Looking For Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of clerical experience in a clinic or medical setting.
- Required to attend, pass and retain Hearing and Vision training and certification.
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems
- Reliable transportation; and valid Michigan driver's license and proof of insurance (if driving for work)
Preferred:
- Associate degree preferred
- One (1) year of clerical experience preferred (medical/clinic setting a plus)
- Experience working with diverse populations and ability to provide culturally sensitive services Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position primarily works in clinic and office settings, with travel to community locations.
Responsibilities may include:
- Standing, bending, and moving throughout office or school environments
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Category A) with full OSHA-compliant protections in place
