License and Certification Qualifications:
Valid Georgia driver's license Preferred Certified screening training for vision screening through Georgia Prevent Blindness must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained thereafter
Required Education Qualifications:
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent Required State paraprofessional license and college training

Gwinnett County Public Schools Primary Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of vision and hearing screenings for both individual special education program evaluations and county-wide mass vision and hearing screenings. Complete individual vision and hearing screenings for special education students and general education students within the Response to Intervention (RTI) process. Screen special education referrals for psychological testing, initial placement, or three year re-evaluations. Screen general education students who are being followed within the RTI process at the recommendation of a local school designee as necessary. Refer hearing failures to GCPS audiologists at Oakland Meadow for follow up. Refer vision failures, via a parent letter, to an optometrist or ophthalmologist for follow up. Maintain detailed records of all screenings to include number of students screened and number of students who pass or fail screenings. Work with local schools to organize and implement the GCPS mass vision and hearing screenings program. Schedule and conduct third grade mass screening in all elementary schools throughout the district. Assist local schools with follow up procedures for failures of mass screenings. Refer hearing failures to GCPS audiologists at Oakland Meadow for follow up. Refer vision failures, via a parent letter, to an optometrist or ophthalmologist for follow up. Maintain detailed records of all screenings to include number of students screened and number of students who pass or fail screenings. Responsible for maintaining and calibrating all the vision and hearing screening equipment. (end of each school year) Coordinate with Audiology Department to schedule calibration sessions. Coordinate with Audiology Department to schedule equipment maintenance through outside vendor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
