Job Description

Job Purpose:
To improve access to patient care by performing delegated audiologic services and tasks as prescribed, directed and supervised by a licensed audiologist. The Audiology Assistant is an integral part of the audiology team by reducing wait times, enhancing patient satisfaction and promotes the overall health and well-being of the patient's hearing health and maintenance of hearing aid devices.
Job Duties:
Shown are expectations intended to provide quality and caring customer service as a summary of the major duties and responsibilities.
  • To support the audiologist in performing routine tasks and duties so that the audiologist is available for the more complex evaluative, diagnostic, management and treatment required by the level of education and training of a licensed audiologist.
  • The duties and responsibilities assigned to an Audiology Assistant will be based on successful completion of applicable training; availability of a licensed audiologist's supervision and the facility's need within the specific work setting.
  • Examples of the types of services an assistant can perform (after appropriate training and demonstration of competency) include routine maintenance, cleaning and repair of hearing aids, reprogramming of hearing aids, trouble-shooting reported non-functioning hearing aids and otoscopy.
  • Examples of the type of tasks or duties an assistant will be asked to perform include answering the phone, scheduling appointments, checking in patients, confirm referral and authorization information, data entry of demographics, manage and record scanned, faxed and mailed documents, and assist audiologist as needed.
  • Other duties will include managing inventory, preparing supplies for shipping and repair, tracking invoices, cataloging and distributing freight, managing warranty programs, and maintaining a high level of organization and cleaning protocol.
  • The Audiology Assistant shall engage only in those duties and responsibilities that are planned, designed and supervised by the audiologist.
  • The Audiology Assistant will protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, Keyboard and Office Equipment.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent with some college courses completed. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, audiology or other applicable training or experience highly encouraged. Must enjoy working with geriatric population.
