Position:
Histology Laboratory Assistant III/Grossing Technician Location:
Los Gatos, CA Permanent/Temporary:
Permanent Full Time/Part Time:
Full Time Work Schedule:
Mondays-Fridays 3:00 PM to 11:30
PM Compensation:
starting at $26/hr with benefits
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma is required. An Associate's Degree is preferred.
Experience:
2 years of laboratory assistant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility- Under in- direct/ direct supervision performs gross examination and description of tissue Receives and accessions specimens. Prepare and perform limited special stains and maintain solutions.
Maintains equipment:
automated slide stainer, tissue processors, IHC automated stainers. Operates Tissue Processor. Stains slides manually and using the automated slide stainer. Coverslips slides either manually or with automated equipment. Labels, organizes and distributes slides; schedule courier when necessary. Cleans and maintains all work areas including glassware. Answers the telephone and fills client stain or recut request. Files blocks, slides and other records. Maintains laboratory stock solutions and puts away general laboratory supplies. Handles specimen container disposal Handles waste disposal accordingly Must be able to work with chemicals such as: formalin, xylene and alcohols
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
Applicants are required to write legibly, should have good communication skills, be able to exercise good judgment in the laboratory environment, be detail oriented and have good organizational skills. They also, should be able to follow written instructions and type accurately a minimum of 45 wpm. Applicants need to be able to stand for approximately 50% of the shift and carry up to 50 pounds.
