POSITION SUMMARY
The Supervising Histotechnician (Lead Histotechnician) is a key member of the pathology laboratory team, responsible for supervising and leading the histology department. This role involves managing a team of Histotechnicians, overseeing daily operations, ensuring the highest quality of histological work, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards What you will be doing Provide leadership and guidance to a team of histotechnologists, including interviewing, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation. Ensure coverage for key laboratory functions including grossing, embedding, cutting, and staining. Monitor and review histological procedures and results to identify and address any issues or deviations. Oversee tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy, ensuring adherence to established protocols. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to tissue processing. This may require being occasionally available after hours and/or weekends. Ensure proper staining techniques, including routine H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA), and accreditation requirements. Conduct safety training and maintain a safe working environment. Help with SOP development and revisions. Collaborate with pathologists and researchers on special projects, providing technical expertise in histology. Stay updated with advancements in histotechnology and participate in the evaluation and implementation of new techniques and technologies. What you will bring to the team Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Biology, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) or Histotechnician (HTL) from a recognized certifying agency. Proven experience in histology laboratory management, with at least 1-2 years of leadership experience. In-depth knowledge of histotechnology techniques, equipment, and quality control procedures. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling tissue samples and laboratory processes.
