Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM Compass Dermatopathology is seeking an experienced Histotechnician to join our laboratory team in San Diego. This is a full time, on site evening shift position where you'll play an important role in preparing high quality tissue specimens that support accurate dermatopathology diagnoses for physicians and patients across the country. We are looking for a dependable, detail oriented professional with strong histology experience, including independently operating a manual microtome and embedding and cutting tissue specimens in a high volume laboratory environment. Responsibilities Prepare tissue specimens for routine and special histology procedures. Embed, section, stain, and prepare dermatopathology specimens for microscopic evaluation. Independently operate a manual microtome to produce high quality tissue sections. Perform embedding and cutting of tissue specimens with accuracy and attention to detail. Load and operate the digital slide scanner. Perform quality control procedures and maintain accurate laboratory documentation. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed. Follow laboratory safety procedures and quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area. Perform other laboratory duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum of three years of histology experience in a clinical or pathology laboratory. Experience independently operating a manual microtome is required. Experience embedding and cutting tissue specimens is required. Must be able to embed and cut 200 to 250 tissue blocks during an 8 hour shift while maintaining quality and accuracy. Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science is preferred. Previous dermatopathology experience is preferred. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Must be able to consistently work on site Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.
