Job Description

SUMMARY:
Seeking an experienced Histology Technician to join its Hospital Clinical Laboratory on a 13-week travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong hospital-based histology experience with demonstrated expertise in grossing (required), embedding, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and cytology specimen preparation. Candidates with extensive experience (10+ years) are encouraged to apply, especially first-time travelers. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform gross examination and preparation of routine anatomical pathology specimens.
Process, embed, and section tissue specimens using automated and manual microtomes. Perform precision microtomy on a variety of tissue types, including fatty, calcified, frozen, and paraffin-embedded specimens. Prepare frozen sections and mount tissue sections onto glass slides. Perform Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), and special stains using both automated and manual techniques. Process tissue specimens through fixation, dehydration, clearing, decalcification, and paraffin embedding. Maintain specimen integrity while utilizing appropriate fixatives and tissue processing protocols. Prepare cytology specimens including ThinPrep, cell blocks, cytospin, and gynecological specimens. Identify staining artifacts and ensure quality control throughout histology procedures. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including tissue processors, microtomes, cryostats, and staining instruments. Collaborate with pathologists and interdisciplinary teams to support accurate and timely patient diagnosis. Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of Histology Technician experience in a hospital clinical laboratory .
  • Grossing experience is required (Hard Stop). Strong experience in hospital anatomical pathology. Associate's Degree in Science or related field. ASCP Histotechnician (HT) Certification preferred.
  • California State License. Any Specific Mandate skill required
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record (EMR).
Previous travel assignment experience (not required). Experience working in a teaching hospital. More than 10 years of histology experience is highly preferred for first-time travelers. HL01
Pay:
