Histotechnologist (HT/HTL Eligible) - Dermatopathology & Mohs Laboratory Full-Time = 30-40 Hours per Week Monday - Friday | No Evenings | No Weekends | No Major Holidays Join a Team Committed to Excellence! Wolverine Dermatology is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Histotechnologist (HT/HTL Eligible) to serve as the Histology Lead for our growing Dermatopathology Laboratory. This unique opportunity offers the chance to lead the daily operations of our Dermatopathology Laboratory while supporting our Mohs Surgery team during scheduled Mohs surgery days. In addition to laboratory operations, this individual will serve as the laboratory lead for CLIA compliance, inspection readiness, quality initiatives, and laboratory staff education and training. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Histotechnologist—or a certification-eligible professional who is actively pursuing HT or HTL (ASCP) certification—to take the next step into a laboratory leadership role while working alongside Practice Leadership, Board-Certified Dermatologists, and a Board-Certified Dermatopathologist. Position Summary:
The Histotechnologist serves as the Histology Lead for Wolverine Dermatology's Dermatopathology Laboratory and is responsible for the accurate preparation, processing, staining, quality control, and management of tissue specimens for microscopic examination. Working closely with our Dermatopathologist and Practice Leadership, this individual will oversee laboratory workflow, promote regulatory compliance, coordinate staff education and competency, and help advance the continued growth and operational excellence of our Dermatopathology Laboratory. During scheduled Mohs surgery days, this position also provides histologic support by preparing frozen tissue sections to assist with efficient surgical workflow and exceptional patient care.
Primary Responsibilities:
Dermatopathology Laboratory Serve as the Histology Lead for the daily operation of the Dermatopathology Laboratory. Receive, accession, process, embed, section, stain, and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination. Perform routine H&E staining and specialized staining procedures. Assist the Dermatopathologist with specimen preparation and laboratory workflow. Maintain specimen integrity and accurate patient identification throughout all laboratory processes. Maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. Manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and reagents. Maintain complete and accurate laboratory documentation and records. Laboratory Leadership, Quality & Regulatory Compliance Serve as the laboratory lead for CLIA compliance, inspection readiness, and ongoing regulatory requirements. Lead laboratory competency assessments, orientation, and ongoing staff education and training. Partner with Practice Leadership and the Dermatopathologist to continually improve laboratory quality, efficiency, workflow, and operational performance. Mohs Laboratory Support Prepare frozen tissue sections during scheduled Mohs Micrographic Surgery procedures. Embed, section, stain, and prepare slides with exceptional accuracy and efficiency. Support physicians and clinical staff during Mohs surgery. Assist in maintaining efficient surgical workflow and timely specimen turnaround. Team Responsibilities Collaborate effectively with physicians, laboratory personnel, and clinical staff. Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and exceptional attention to detail. Foster a positive, collaborative, patient-focused work environment. Assist with onboarding and mentoring laboratory personnel as needed. Support the broader Wolverine Dermatology team whenever operational needs require.
Qualifications:
Required Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology or a related laboratory science. Current HT or HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility to sit for the HT or HTL (ASCP) certification examination. Candidates who are certification eligible should be actively preparing for or scheduling their certification examination and demonstrate a commitment to obtaining certification within an agreed-upon timeframe following employment. Strong knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and laboratory quality standards. Excellent organizational, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Preferred Two or more years of Histology experience. Experience working in a Dermatopathology laboratory. Experience with CLIA, OSHA, CAP, and laboratory accreditation standards. Previous participation in laboratory inspections, quality improvement initiatives, or staff education.
