The Histology Lead works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director to provide oversight of the histology department. The Lead is responsible for evaluating a caregiver's performance and ensuring that staff are competent. Works with the Laboratory director and Pathologists to determine goals of the department. Performs microtomy, stains, and monitors documentation, complies statistical data for management. Reviews QC, CAP surveys and department QA's. Evaluates new stains, trains new caregivers, writes procedure, and ensures CAP compliance. Rotates call as needed.   • Precise hand/ eye coordination is necessary to prepare and process specimens. Interpersonal Skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors, physicians, etc.
  • Must work well as a team member. Essential Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move between lab and other departments.
  • Ability to stand and\or sit for long periods of time while working at instruments.
  • Ability to bend and\or sit, stoop and lift 20-30 pounds. Essential Mental Abilities
