As scheduled Hiring range: $25.30 - $32.89 hourly The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
Responsibilities:
Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for Inputs patient demographics into computer Reports results and maintains documentation. Operates and maintains equipment used for embedding and sectioning Follows safety requirements and appropriately handles and disposes of Performs histological preparation of samples including the embedding, cutting and staining of tissue for pathology. Performs special stains on tissue, including the operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies used in this task.
Complexity of Work:
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Required Credential(s): Valid New York State Histologic Technician Certification or Valid NYS Medical Technician license Required prior to hire date or job transfer date. Limited permit in lieu of license may be accepted.
Education:
High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
