Monday•Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8:30a•5:00p SUMMARY The Histology Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting the histotechnologists in processing the slides for the pathologists, registers surgical specimens in the LIS system, and performs preventive maintenance of equipment, reagents, and documents on the applicable logs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Verifies patient identification on specimens and requisitions, notifies the manager or designee of any discrepancies. Registers surgical specimens in the LIS system and provides positive patient identification throughout processing. Obtains necessary information if missing. Organizes and files slides, blocks and paperwork in numerical order. Prepares, stains, cover slips and labels specimens. Performs preventive maintenance of equipment and reagents then documents on the applicable logs. Monitors temperatures of equipment. Maintains and runs recycler. Monitors departmental reagent inventories. Notifies appropriate person when supplies reach reorder level. Enters incoming cases received from reference labs or consultations. Prepares cases for send out to reference labs. Works with Leadership and lab employees to accomplish departmental goals and objectives. Promotes and supports positive team environment in the department. Participates in scheduled department meetings. Complies with established procedures and company policy.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of six (6) months laboratory experience required Computer experience required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree preferred

M•Medium Work•Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. 14621 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
