Compensation Range:
$31.82 - $42.96 The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of laboratory leadership at all times and with limited latitude to work independently, this role prepares to meet the competencies required to perform specialized testing and support for the laboratory section. With supervisory oversight, performs technical assignments, which are broadly outlined and require appropriate theoretical insight and interpretation. Within the confines of license eligibility and limited permits, exercises a moderate degree of skill and judgment and an understanding of the principles and methodologies of Histology. Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally.
Essential Functions:
Under supervision, prepares gross sections of human tissue for examination. Under supervision, operates laboratory equipment to embed, section, and stain specimens. Under supervision, operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains, as requested. Some manual staining may be required. Under supervision, follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives, and safety standards. Keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures. Under supervision, examines slides under a microscope to ensure that slides meet laboratory quality standards. Under supervision, performs maintenance on laboratory equipment and performs troubleshooting as instructed. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Associate's Degree (AAS) in Histology or Medical Laboratory Technology required. Or Associate's Degree in a natural science or a clinical laboratory science, and coursework acceptable to the NYSED required. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience as a histology technician preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of anatomy, histology, chemistry preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
NYS HT license eligible required. NYS MLT license eligible required. Limited Permit (submitted to NYSED) preferred.
