Job Summary:
Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician Trainee to join our team in Portland, OR.
Location:
1225 North East 2nd
Avenue, Portland, OR Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Schedule may change upon completion of the trainee period based on department needs) Job Responsibilities Assist with processing human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examination Learn and perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens Assist with sectioning embedded tissue using a microtome and mounting sections on microscope slides Learn routine and special staining procedures, including H& E staining, under supervision Assist with immunohistochemical procedures on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections as training progresses Learn proper orientation and embedding of surgical tissue specimens Assist with preparation of stains and reagents for routine and special procedures Support accurate and timely completion of work to ensure quality patient care Assist with operation and routine maintenance of manual and automated laboratory instruments Perform and document equipment maintenance, quality control, and preventive maintenance activities as directed Accurately complete required logs, documentation, and records in a timely manner Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies Follow laboratory SOPs for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting Document and communicate problems that may affect test performance and escalate as needed Comply with all laboratory safety policies and PPE requirements Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology Preferred Qualifications 1 year or more experience working in a laboratory environment 1 year or more experience in a histology or pathology laboratory setting Additional Job Standards Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills Willingness to learn in a structured training environment and meet competency expectations Able to pass a standardized color blindness test Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs Additional Job Standards Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills Willingness to learn in a structured training environment and meet competency expectations Able to pass a standardized color blindness test Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs At Labcorp we have a passion in helping people live happy and healthy lives.
