Join us as a Histotechnician in a full-time Monday through Friday role with a consistent 7:00 am to 3:30 pm schedule, 8-hour shifts, and no weekends, holidays, or on-call. Margaret Dermatology:

Sign-On Bonus:
We're excited to offer a sign-on bonus to qualified candidates: $12,000 for candidates with 0-1 year of experience $15,000 for candidates with 1+ years of experience Bonus amounts are subject to a 2-year work commitment. The Histotechnician is a valued step in UPMC's Laboratory Career Ladder. Final placement will be based on education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location, including minute biopsy protocols. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections, including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters. Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Maintain instruments in accordance with quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Supports the academic mission of the department. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies. Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to the Histology workflow. Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures, and work practices. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree and 1 year clinical Histology experience OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/ university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry and 1 year clinical Histology experience OR 3 years' experience working as a Histology Lab Technician or equivalent without certification.
