Histotechnologist Job Description This role offers an experienced histotechnologist the opportunity to perform complex histology testing, support quality assurance activities, and contribute to the reliability and accuracy of laboratory results. The position requires strong technical expertise, supervisory capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of sample compliance and laboratory quality. The histotechnologist will work within a clinical laboratory environment and play a key role in supporting patient care through precise and timely histologic analysis. Responsibilities Perform histology testing and related procedures in accordance with established laboratory protocols and regulatory standards. Ensure accurate preparation, processing, and handling of tissue samples to maintain sample integrity and compliance. Conduct quality assurance testing to verify the accuracy, precision, and reliability of laboratory results. Monitor and maintain adherence to laboratory quality control procedures, documenting and addressing any deviations. Apply supervisory skills to oversee daily workflow, support team members, and help maintain efficient laboratory operations as needed. Verify that all samples, reagents, and equipment meet compliance and quality requirements prior to use. Collaborate with laboratory staff and leadership to meet Pathology and Laboratory ICCE Career Ladder requirements for Histology Technologist (HTL) IV/Specialist within the required timeframe. Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to testing, quality assurance, and sample compliance. Follow all laboratory safety procedures and guidelines while working with specimens, chemicals, and equipment. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance testing processes, quality, and efficiency. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience performing histology testing in a clinical or pathology laboratory setting. Strong supervisory skills to support workflow coordination and provide guidance within the laboratory. Thorough understanding of sample compliance requirements and best practices for specimen handling and processing. Proficiency in quality assurance testing and quality control procedures in a laboratory environment. Bachelor's degree in science from an accredited college or university. HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent. ASCP certification as required for the histotechnologist role. Ability to complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements for Histology Technologist (HTL) IV/Specialist within 6 months of hire. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing tests and documenting results. Ability to follow written protocols, regulatory standards, and laboratory policies consistently. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience working in a hospital or large clinical laboratory setting. Experience supporting or performing quality improvement initiatives within a laboratory. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with laboratory colleagues and leadership. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a busy laboratory environment. Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current certification and competencies. Work Environment The role is based in a clinical laboratory setting and involves working with histology specimens, reagents, and standard laboratory equipment. The schedule includes an 11:30 shift with a differential and a 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. shift, requiring comfort with early-morning or off-peak hours as assigned. The environment is fast-paced and quality-driven, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, safety, and adherence to laboratory protocols. Team members work collaboratively with other laboratory professionals in a structured setting that supports career progression through defined Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements.
