POSITION SUMMARY

Assists the histologist with processing, labeling, arranging, storage/disposal, and trouble-shooting of histology specimens. Performs semi-skilled technical work.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specimen & Slide Handling:

Receive, accession, and verify tissue specimens according to laboratory protocols. Assist with embedding, microtomy preparation, staining setup, and coverslipping as directed. Perform daily maintenance on tissue processors Digital Slide Scanning Operate whole-slide imaging scanners to digitize glass slides. Prepare slides for scanning, ensuring cleanliness, correct labeling, and proper orientation. Monitor scanning processes and troubleshoot basic scanner errors. Perform quality control checks on digital images for clarity, focus, and completeness. Maintain and clean scanning equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory guidelines.

Slide Distribution:

Organize and distribute glass slides to pathologists in a timely and accurate manner. Track slide location and status using the LIS or tracking system. Prioritize cases according to urgency (e.g., STAT, frozen sections, biopsies). Coordinate with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure efficient workflow.

Laboratory Support:

Maintain inventory of slides, reagents, and consumables; notify supervisor of low stock. Follow all laboratory safety procedures, including proper handling of biohazard materials and chemicals. Assist with equipment maintenance and routine cleaning. Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications :

High school diploma College courses in chemistry and biology preferred Laboratory and/or histology experience preferred

Must be detail oriented, able to function under time pressure and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
