Job Description
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs immunohistochemical techniques suitable for microscopic analysis, examination, and photography. Assists in developing technical procedures to meet the special requirements of particular protocols, in consultation with the investigator/pathologist, on the methods and materials required to assure proper tissue handling, collection, and preservation for histological, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence analysis as requested. Assists with conducting section orientation to all technicians working in the section. Shall provide hands on training to personnel, in the methods, procedures, and equipment operation, as necessary, for personnel working in the laboratory. Performs scanning and electronic storage of slides processed by theIHC/IFA/ICC
section. Performs routine and special histological procedures, involving specimen trim-in, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Performs molecular pathology procedures to include, but not limited to, nucleic acid assays and protein extraction and purification from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded samples. Prepares buffers and solutions by using appropriate calculations and titration tools such as pH Meter, weigh scale, and other equipment. Operates specialized equipment to include, but not limited to, plate readers, autostainers, thermocyclers, microscopes (bright field, fluorescent, confocal, slide scanner). Conducts yearly inventory and updates chemical inventory in accordance with SOP. Disposes of hazardous waste in accordance with SOP. Maintains updated Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for each chemical in a hard copy and electronic format. Inventories and submits purchase requests for supplies, reagents, and other consumables to sustain operations. Obtains quotes and submits purchase requests through automated MS SharePoint software or equivalent system for Laboratory Support. Assists with preparing scientific presentations and peer review publications. Provides graphical representation of image analysis and a technical description write up, for manuscripts or publications as requested. Authors and updates SOPs for the molecular pathology section. Provides weekly updates and reports on work completed to include, but not limited to, type of procedure, completion status, pass/fail status, number of samples processed, turnaround time, and consumables used. Serves as designated Team Lead for Laboratory Support. Coordinates contract employee leaves to ensure mission needs are met. Assigns work schedules to satisfy current priorities/needs as discussed with Pathology Chief. Ensures contract employees comply with all training requirements and provides copies of all training certificates to the COR. Other duties as assignedREQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
