What we are looking for:
As a Student Histotechnician you will be instrumental in providing a variety of support functions in our dermatopathology laboratory and responsible for supporting a multi-site dermatology practice. This individual delivers safe and accurate lab services, including but not limited to embedding, sectioning, and staining. This technician must demonstrate reliable clinical practices in a histology laboratory setting and compliance with Lab-related regulations. What you'll do: Deliver safe and accurate lab services, under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager and in collaboration with the healthcare team. Complete comprehensive laboratory technician training/orientation on Epiphany laboratory protocols, procedures, and testing imperatives. Perform administrative lab duties within scope of practice. Provide feedback on status and/or reports to providers, as necessary. Accurately document within our EHR, per guidelines and appropriate limited access. Receive, organize, and prepare patient tissue samples for microscopic evaluation by the Dermatopathologist, including (all taught on the job.): o Confirming patient identity o Correctly embedding processed tissue samples o Sectioning tissue on a microtome or cryostat o Correctly following staining protocols to include routine hematoxylin & eosin, special stains, direct immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry o Correctly labeling completed slides Assist with laboratory send-outs to include slide and block requests as required. General lab maintenance, including but not limited to: o Slide and block organization and storage o Maintenance of CLIA required records and documentation Assist with completing and maintaining all compliance related paperwork to include temperature and humidity information, chemical reagent log sheets, patient information logs, and quality assurance forms. Adhere to all safety protocols. Provide excellent customer service in person or on the telephone when answering or referring inquiries. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:
Prior anatomic pathology laboratory preferred, but not required. Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. Or at minimum 12 science credits which must include a combination of biology and chemistry (required). Minimum 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university required at time of hire with expectation that 60 total will be completed by the completion of training. Minimum 12 science credits required which must include a combination of biology and chemistry. Expected that employee will successfully complete the training and sit for and pass their HT(ASCP) certification exam within a maximum of 5 years from their hire date in the laboratory Must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction. We will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
Work environment and physical requirements:
Medical office, procedure/exam room and laboratory environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, biohazards or toxic substances. Daily activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending and lifting items up to 30 lbs.
