Place tissues in fixative solution to stabilize and prevent decay. Section sample blocks with a microtome. Select stain and staining procedure to highlight the feature of interest. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. benefits.utah.edu Responsibilities HistoTechnologist, I Processing and proper handling of all specimens received in laboratory in preparation for pathologist review and diagnosis Responsible for appropriately performing testing, including, but not limited to routine, special, immunohistochemical, and/or immunofluorescence stains Prepares stains, reagents, and solutions in accordance with laboratory standard written procedures Performs microtomy to render quality sections for diagnoses. Responsible for labeling, entering, and tracking specimens and slides in the LIS (Laboratory Information System) Be familiar and adheres to all laboratory policies, procedures, and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) Maintains laboratory work areas by performing preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment as well as keeping work area clean and organized Adheres to the University PROMISE Standards Adheres to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines and patient confidentiality Adheres to all laboratory safety protocols as outlined in the laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan, including, but not limited to, wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and proper handling and disposal of biological waste, sharps, and chemicals Adheres to all compliance, inspections, and operational procedures from accrediting agencies, CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) and CAP (College of American Pathologists) Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree. HistoTechnologist, I:
Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree. Preferences Meets CLIA minimum education requirements: Meet one of the following: 1. Associate degree in chemical or biological science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR 2.
Have education equivalence to:
a.
