Much like a Paraprofessional in a school setting, or a Care Aid in a residential setting, the LSA is responsible for providing direct support, positive direction, and assistance within a 1:1 ratio by program policies, procedures, and GGRC standards. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with daily activities of life skills by monitoring and implementing each program participant's daily activity schedule, teaching safety awareness, documenting each program participant's progress in alignment with IPP goals, and participating in community engagement activities and/or program location-based activities. Finally, the Life Skills Advocate is responsible for facilitating all necessary actions to achieve success for program participants and realize the Mission and Vision of OSBI. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Must have or be able to obtain a Level 1 Finger Print Clearance Card. Experience working with individuals with intellectual disability or a similar population requiring attention and compassionate care Ability to gain knowledge and implement practices that show attention to compassionate and safe supervision of individuals with intellectual disability. Appropriate certifications and clearance according to State Regulations Good driving record must pass MVR Responsibilities Deliver program curriculum based on individual needs of program members in accordance with ISP goals and objectives by implementing daily schedule provided by supervisor. Transport program members safely in a company vehicle to/from DTA program for community-based activities as well as transportation to and from program. Consider safety and proactive supervision when supporting members by assisting and accompanying them on campus or community activities. Report and document concise daily member's progress including completing daily data collection logs, communication books, etc. Act as an advocate for Member(s)/OSBI when in contact with Parents/Guardians/Support Coordinator regarding updates on Member activities throughout the day. Model and demonstrate appropriate behavior management techniques (Article 9 training) with program members. Project a professional, knowledgeable, and capable image consistent with the One Step Beyond mission in public interactions. Consider the welfare, growth and development of program members as a top priority in all support and instructional activities. Communicate effectively and respectfully with members and parents/guardians to address concerns, maintain positive relationships, and serve as an advocate for members and a resource for parents/guardians. Encourage other LSA's to work together to support the team in all direct service practices, including member's safety measures, curriculum delivery support, positive behavior support, and progress report accuracy. Provide information to DTA Supervisor/DTA Director to advocate for change in ISP goals/objective, requests of new services (when needed). Handle difficult situations with a positive attitude by actively seeking problem resolution, creative solutions, and program and organizational enhancements to ensure individual and team performance as well as program effectiveness.
