Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through personalized support, safety, and encouragement. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals requiring assistance with daily activities, health monitoring, and community engagement. The position is paid and requires a proactive, patient-focused approach to caregiving within a supportive team environment. Responsibilities Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support. Monitor residents' health by taking vital signs, observing behavior, and reporting any changes to healthcare professionals. Support medication administration in accordance with care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance. Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs while maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area. Operate patient lifting equipment such as Hoyer lifts safely to transfer residents with mobility challenges. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment by performing routine cleaning tasks and adhering to sanitation standards. Engage residents in social activities and community outings to promote socialization and mental well-being. Follow individualized care plans developed by healthcare teams, including those for dementia, Alzheimer's, autism, or other developmental disabilities. Document observations accurately and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Provide compassionate support during emergencies or health crises through CPR or first aid when necessary. Requirements Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly desirable. Knowledge of patient care techniques including vital signs monitoring, medication administration, and dementia or memory care practices. Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred; ongoing training in healthcare procedures is encouraged. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate patient transfer equipment such as Hoyer lifts. Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and recognizing changes in behavior or health status. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, Alzheimer's disease, or other cognitive impairments. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of protected health information (PHI). Excellent communication skills coupled with patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity. Physical stamina necessary for caregiving tasks including assisting with mobility and performing household chores related to home & community care.
