Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide essential support and care to individuals in various settings, including home environments, assisted living facilities, group homes, and nursing homes. As a vital member of our caregiving team, you will help enhance the quality of life for residents and clients by delivering personalized assistance with daily activities, health monitoring, and emotional support. Duties Assist residents and clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support. Monitor patient health by taking vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; observe for any changes or signs of distress. Support medication administration following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality. Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding when necessary. Operate assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts and other mobility aids safely to prevent injury and promote independence. Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties including cleaning resident areas, laundry, and maintaining infection control standards. Document patient observations, care provided, and any incidents accurately in compliance with facility policies. Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement personalized care plans. Provide emotional support and companionship to residents or clients, fostering a positive environment that promotes mental well-being. Assist with transportation to medical appointments or community activities as needed. Support residents with specialized needs such as dementia or Alzheimer's care, memory care programs, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder. Respond promptly to emergencies by executing CPR or first aid procedures when necessary; escalate issues according to protocol. Requirements Proven experience in home & community care, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or group homes is highly preferred. Certification in First Aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training are advantageous. Knowledge of patient observation techniques and vital signs monitoring is essential for quality care delivery. Experience working with people with disabilities, dementia (including Alzheimer's), or in hospice care is highly valued. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts; physical stamina for long shifts is necessary. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and healthcare teams while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA standards. Familiarity with medication administration procedures following prescribed care plans. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in fast-paced environments requiring adaptability and compassion. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in caregiving or nursing assistance is preferred.
