Optimae offers staff support as needed to people who have mental and/or intellectual disabilities and are living in their own home in the community. The level of functioning differs between customers. Some clients require a few hours of assistance each day, whereas others require a few hours of assistance each week. Staff members encourage, model, and assist clients to reach their goals. Staff will document progress made during their shift and turn in paperwork daily. Legibility and strong writing ability is important in this process. Good communication skills are essential to this position. Transportation of clients to areas in the community occurs daily. The ability to maintain a driver's license, reliable vehicle, and auto insurance is mandatory as well as maintaining a safe driving record. Staff can expect to spend upwards of 90% of their day in the community. Staff must have a high school diploma/GED or higher education. During the course of a shift a staff member can expect to participate in the following activities: Passing medications Transporting customers to appointments/errands Transporting customers to community activities Working with the customer on utilizing coping skills Participating in crisis intervention and conflict resolution Utilizing healthy boundaries with each interaction Advocating for clients
