Job Description

Any incomplete applications may not be considered• Job Overview At Abilities Plus, Direct Support Professionals play a vital role in empowering individuals with disabilities to live more independent, fulfilling lives. This position combines hands-on support, skill-building, and community engagement in a residential setting. If you are compassionate, dependable, and motivated to make a difference, we want you on our team. Duties Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support Monitor residents' health status by taking vital signs and observing for any changes in condition Administer medications following care plans and HIPAA regulations Support residents during meal preparation and feeding, ensuring nutritional needs are met Operate assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts and ensure safe transfer techniques Maintain a clean and safe environment through light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and sanitation Document care activities accurately in accordance with agency policies and procedures Engage residents in social activities to promote mental well-being and community involvement Follow individualized care plans tailored to each resident's needs, including dementia, Alzheimer's, autism, or memory care requirements Respond promptly to emergencies with appropriate first aid or CPR if necessary Collaborate with healthcare professionals to monitor patient progress and update care strategies accordingly Requirements Prior experience in group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or home health/care settings preferred High School diploma or equivalent. DSP certification preferred (training provided within first 120 days). Experience working with individuals with developmental or physical disabilities preferred. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to complete van driver training. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs., assist with transfers, and perform physical job duties. Must pass background checks and maintain CPR, First Aid, and medication certifications. Ability to work in environments with moderate noise and occasional exposure to bodily fluids. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and assist with resident transfers using proper techniques (e.g., Hoyer lift) Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and safety assessment Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with residents, families, and team members Compassionate attitude with a focus on respectful person-centered care Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of medication administration protocols and adherence to safety standards in healthcare settings Abilities Plus is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer.
