Required schedule: Friday 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM and every other Saturday & Sunday 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM What is a Direct Support Professional? Direct Support Professionals provide support and supervision to individuals who have developmental, mental health, or physical disabilities. This position is focused on supporting one active individual in a residential setting and throughout the community. What Makes This Position Unique? The individual supported through this position enjoys frequent outings and activities, so applicants must be comfortable driving and accompanying them to various community destinations on a regular basis. The successful candidate will also have experience, or a strong willingness to learn, how to effectively support an individual who exhibits behavioral challenges. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one support to an individual with disabilities. Accompany and support the individual during frequent community outings and recreational activities. Assist with developing and maintaining community relationships and friendships. Support daily living activities, including household tasks, meal preparation, self-care, socialization, leisure activities, health and safety, money management, and behavior support. Implement behavior support strategies as needed. Administer medications. Provide transportation using a personal vehicle. Complete documentation through an online computer system. Who Are We Looking For?
Applicants must:
Be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma. Have experience supporting individuals with disabilities; behavioral support experience is strongly preferred. Possess a valid driver's license, have access to an insured vehicle, maintain a clean driving record, and pass a DHS background study. Be comfortable spending significant time in the community with an active individual. Demonstrate basic computer skills necessary for documentation and communication. Working Conditions:
The Direct Support Professional is subject to flexible hours, including split shifts, varied days and times, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnights, depending on coverage needs of the site and the company. This position may be expected to cover other sites. This position will travel regularly into the community and work in a variety of settings both inside and outside the site and throughout the community. The Direct Support Professional is subject to frequent interruptions and imposed deadlines. This person sits, walks, bends, lifts, reaches, and moves intermittently during working hours. This person is subject to frequent problem-solving activities and has regular contact with individuals, family members, friends, and the general public , who may be hostile or emotionally upset. The position may be subject to physically aggressive individuals and may be exposed to infectious diseases, odor, and dust.
