Purpose:
The Lead Direct Support Professional provides direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while serving as a mentor and resource to Direct Support Professionals. This position helps ensure high-quality, person-centered services by promoting consistency in care, supporting staff development, coordinating day-to-day operations within the home, and fostering an environment where individuals can build momentum toward greater independence and meaningful lives. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to individuals in accordance with their Person-Centered Support Plan (PCSP) and agency policies.
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living, community participation, skill development, and personal goals.
- Serve as the primary staff lead for the home and a resource for DSP team members.
- Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new Direct Support Professionals.
- Promote consistency in service delivery and implementation of support plans.
- Monitor documentation for accuracy and completeness and communicate concerns to management.
- Coordinate and communicate information regarding appointments, activities, schedules, and individual needs.
- Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant home environment.
- Provide on-call support and respond to staff questions and concerns.
- Maintain flexibility in scheduling and assist with filling vacant shifts as needed to ensure continuity of services.
- Communicate staffing concerns, incidents, and operational issues to management.
- Model professionalism, person-centered practices, and agency values.
- Complete all required documentation, training, and certifications. Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance required.
- Ability to pass criminal background checks, Family Care Safety Registry screening, and any other screenings required by state regulations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and other required trainings.
- Ability to complete all required agency orientation and ongoing training requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and agency confidentiality policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in supporting individuals in community and home settings.
- Ability to accurately complete documentation and maintain records.
- Ability to safely assist individuals with mobility, transfers, and personal care needs as required by the individual's support plan.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with supporting individuals.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as needed.
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
