DSPs play a critical role in maintaining safety, consistency, and therapeutic structure while supporting clients with daily living skills and behavior management. This role involves working with youth who may exhibit oppositional behavior, emotional dysregulation, or resistance to direction. Success in this position requires the ability to remain calm under pressure, follow established treatment and behavior plans with consistency, and maintain professional boundaries at all times. This position is best suited for individuals who understand that structure, consistency, and accountability are essential components of care. While the work can be challenging, it is meaningful and provides opportunities for professional growth within a supportive and structured team environment. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, supervision, and support to youth in a structured residential home environment.
- Maintain a safe, calm, and therapeutic atmosphere by consistently enforcing house rules, routines, and expectations.
- Support clients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, meals, medication support, and daily routines.
- Implement individualized behavior support and treatment plans exactly as written, without improvisation or deviation.
- Respond to challenging behaviors using approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques while maintaining professionalism and emotional regulation.
- Model appropriate communication, boundaries, and problem-solving skills for clients at all times.
- Promote client independence by encouraging participation in educational, vocational, recreational, and community-based activities as appropriate.
- Observe, document, and report client behaviors, progress, and incidents accurately and objectively in shift notes, progress notes, and incident reports.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure consistency of care and continuity between shifts.
- Remain alert and responsive throughout the shift, including during extended periods, to ensure client safety.
- Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and confidentiality requirements without exception.
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to safely transport clients as required.
- Ability to pass all required state background checks, fingerprinting, and drug screening.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully in both written documentation and verbal interactions.
- Emotional maturity and the ability to remain calm, professional, and consistent in high-stress or behaviorally challenging situations.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow established policies, procedures, and treatment plans without deviation.
Preferred:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field.
- Current CPR/First Aid and CPI (or equivalent crisis-intervention) certification, or willingness to obtain and maintain certification as required.
- Prior experience working with youth in residential, behavioral health, group home, or trauma-informed care settings.
- Familiarity with behavior support plans, documentation requirements, and structured care environments. What We Offer
