Certified Peer Support Specialist Location:
Wilson, NC Job Type:
Full-Time, In Person Pay:
$15.00-$20.00 per hour About the Position We are seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) to provide recovery-focused support and coaching to adults experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. The CPSS serves as a positive role model and advocate while helping members develop coping skills, build independence, strengthen community connections, and take an active role in their recovery. This position works closely with the member's treatment team and, when appropriate, with family members and community resources. The Peer Support Specialist serves as a guide, mentor, and source of lived-experience support-not as a sponsor -and models resiliency, recovery, and healthy coping strategies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide high-quality peer support services in accordance with organizational standards and applicable licensing and credentialing requirements. Provide individual and group peer support to assist members with treatment participation and achievement of treatment-plan goals. Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation of all support and counseling services provided. Connect members with appropriate community resources and referrals. Encourage motivation for change, recovery, coping-skill development, and healthy, safe, and productive living. Provide crisis intervention and support when needed using agency-approved techniques. Facilitate groups, community integration activities, and individual support services as part of the psychosocial rehabilitation program. Educate members about mental health, medication awareness, relapse prevention, and recovery strategies. Help members develop and practice independent living skills. Support the development of healthy social and interpersonal skills within a supportive and inclusive environment. Transport members to and from groups and community outings as needed. Facilitate educational groups and appropriately respond to medical or behavioral emergencies. Maintain clear legal and ethical boundaries with members, staff, families, and community resources. Collaborate effectively with peers and other professionals to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None. Qualifications & Requirements High School Diploma or GED equivalent. NC Certified Peer Support Specialist certification required. At least 1-2 years of experience working with individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. Minimum of 2 consecutive years of personal recovery . Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Current auto insurance. Ability to successfully complete a background check and drug screening. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of the 12 Core Functions . Ability to read, write, and complete clear and accurate documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and credentialing requirements. Certifications & Training Preferred or required certifications/training may include: NC Certified Peer Support Specialist CPR/First Aid NCI Plus Client Rights & Confidentiality HIPAA Bloodborne Pathogens
