Job Description
Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs. This role is vital in promoting independence, safety, and well-being for residents in various care settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community-based programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to person-centered care, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to supporting individuals with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, or age-related conditions such as dementia and geriatrics. Responsibilities Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using appropriate patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts or manual handling techniques. Monitor and observe patients for changes in condition, vital signs, or behavior, ensuring timely reporting to healthcare professionals as needed. Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans developed by healthcare teams. Prepare nutritious meals in accordance with dietary restrictions and assist residents with meal consumption when necessary. Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing regular cleaning duties and adhering to sanitation standards. Provide transportation assistance for appointments, outings, or community activities to promote social engagement and independence. Document care activities accurately and communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members to ensure continuity of care. Participate in training related to dementia care, Alzheimer's support, hospice care, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities, and other specialized areas of caregiving. Experience Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly desirable. Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques including vital signs measurement and patient observation strategies. Familiarity with care plans development and implementation for individuals with developmental disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders. Hands-on experience with manual handling equipment such as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer devices. Training or certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications in medication administration or dementia care are advantageous. Experience supporting individuals with autism or memory care needs enhances your ability to deliver tailored support. Background working within HIPAA regulations ensures confidentiality and privacy of client information.
