Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents, supporting their independence, and fostering a safe, respectful environment. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, or age-related conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The position is fully paid and requires a proactive approach to patient care, safety, and community engagement. Responsibilities Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and mobility support using manual handling techniques such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods. Monitor residents' health status by observing vital signs, assessing mental and physical well-being, and reporting any changes to healthcare professionals promptly. Support medication administration in accordance with care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy. Implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident's needs, including dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, and autism support. Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning while accommodating special dietary requirements related to medical conditions or personal preferences. Maintain a clean, safe environment by performing routine cleaning tasks in residents' living spaces and common areas in compliance with health standards. Provide transportation assistance for medical appointments, community outings, or personal errands to promote social engagement and independence. Document all care activities accurately and communicate effectively with team members regarding resident progress or concerns. Qualifications Previous experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly desirable. Knowledge of patient observation techniques, medication administration, first aid, CPR certification, and vital signs monitoring is essential. Familiarity with dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, hospice care, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism is preferred. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays supports effective caregiving strategies. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper manual handling techniques; experience with patient transfer equipment like Hoyer lifts is advantageous. Strong communication skills necessary for client interaction and team collaboration within diverse caregiving environments. Certification in first aid and CPR; additional training in HIPAA compliance and patient safety is beneficial.
