What Does a Direct Support Professional Do? Direct Support Professionals provide support, companionship, and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The goal is to help individuals live as independently as possible while participating in their communities and achieving their personal goals.
Responsibilities may include:
Assisting with daily living activities Providing companionship and emotional support Helping individuals participate in community activities Teaching life skills and promoting independence Assisting with transportation and appointments Advocating for individuals and supporting personal goals No previous experience is required. All training is provided and paid. Requirements At least 18 years of age Valid driver's license and current auto insurance Clear criminal history record Good written and verbal communication skills Able to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed to provide services
