Direct Support Professional

Overview The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The DSP works closely with clients in various settings, including group homes and community-based environments, to enhance their quality of life. Duties Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration. Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with healthcare professionals and family members. Provide support for clients with dementia or other cognitive impairments, ensuring their safety and comfort. Monitor client behavior and health status, reporting any changes to appropriate personnel. Facilitate social interactions and community engagement to promote inclusion and independence. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect client privacy and confidentiality. Assist with lifting and transferring clients as needed, ensuring proper techniques are used for safety. Document daily activities, progress notes, and any incidents in accordance with organizational policies. Skills Experience in group home settings or home community care is preferred. Knowledge of care plans and the ability to follow them accurately. Familiarity with dementia care practices is a plus. Strong direct support skills to effectively assist individuals with varying needs. Understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency in medication administration protocols. Ability to lift clients safely and provide physical assistance when necessary. Excellent patient monitoring skills to ensure the well-being of clients. Compassionate demeanor with strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients.
