Job Description

Job Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and overall quality of life. This position involves assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting independence, and fostering a supportive environment. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community-based programs. Duties Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation. Provide patient care and support in accordance with individualized care plans. Monitor and document client behavior, health status, and vital signs to ensure proper care and intervention when necessary. Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations. Engage clients in social activities to promote community involvement and enhance social skills. Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties. Support clients with mobility needs using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective care strategies for individuals with specific needs such as Alzheimer's or dementia care. Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for clients. Skills First aid and CPR certification is preferred. Experience working in group homes or assisted living environments is highly desirable. Strong patient observation skills to recognize changes in behavior or health status. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility challenges. Knowledge of caregiving techniques for individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities. Familiarity with memory care practices and dementia support strategies. Competence in preparing nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs. Understanding of medication administration protocols and care plan development. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients, families, and team members. Compassionate approach towards working with seniors and individuals requiring long-term care support.
