No pressure. (Okay — a little pressure, but the good kind.) Visiting Angels of Des Moines provides in-home care for seniors across Des Moines, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Grimes, Norwalk, West Des Moines, Altoona, and Pleasant Hill. We're hiring an Office Assistant who's genuinely good with people, quick on a keyboard, and unbothered by a phone that rings mid-email. What you'll actually do all day Answer inbound calls from clients, families, and caregivers — and make plenty of outbound ones, too: shift coverage, follow-ups, check-ins, recruiting callbacks Keep our care team connected by phone, text, and email throughout the day Support scheduling — filling shifts, confirming visits, updating changes as they come in Greet the occasional walk-in and make them glad they stopped by Handle the everyday office work — data entry, filing, supplies, mail — that keeps everything else running Let's talk about the schedule, because it's different You won't be doing this alone. You'll join a small team of office assistants who share phone coverage, which is exactly why the schedule rotates — we make sure someone's always here, and we back each other up. We run a three-week rotating schedule that repeats, so your calendar is predictable months out. Week one, week two, and week three each look a little different — then it starts over. Hours land between 28 and 36 per week depending on where you are in the rotation. Once every three weeks, you cover a weekend — and you work it from home. Those are longer days, so your hours are higher that week. No commute, no office clothes, just you and the phone. Want more hours than that? We can often make it happen. Occasional extra office hours come up, and some of our office staff also pick up caregiving visits in the field when they want to add to their paycheck — certain visit types pay more, too. No caregiving background required; we provide the training if it's something you want to try. We can't promise a set 40 every week, but if you're motivated, there's usually more work available than the schedule alone shows. What we offer $17.00 to start, with a 90-day performance review and raise consideration $30 per hour holiday pay — close to double time when you work a holiday Paid time off, earned after six months Weekend rotation shifts worked from home A small, close team where your ideas actually get heard Room to grow — this role touches scheduling, recruiting, and client care Work that matters: every call you take helps an Iowa senior stay safely at home Straight talk: we're a small local office, so we don't offer health, dental, or 401(k). This role tends to be a great fit for someone covered under a spouse's plan, semi-retired and wanting to stay in the mix, or balancing school or family around a flexible schedule. What makes someone great at this job You genuinely like talking to people, including people having a hard day You can hold three things in your head at once and not drop any of them You type fast and catch the small details others miss You'd rather solve it than escalate it Previous front desk, call center, scheduling, or office experience — healthcare or home care is a bonus, not a requirement Comfortable with computers and Google Workspace Reliable internet at home for weekend shifts A few practical notes Employment is contingent on a background check and Iowa dependent adult abuse registry check. Weekday shifts are in our Urbandale office — reliable commute required. Visiting Angels of Des Moines is an equal opportunity employer. How to apply Send us your resume — we'll send you a quick questionnaire and when we ask you to tell us a little about yourself, don't hold back. We actually read those. Tell us what you're into outside of work, whether that's knitting, hiking, spoiling your dog, chasing kids around, or something we've never heard before. We like knowing who we're working with. Bonus points if you call us at 515-855-2273 and introduce yourself. This job is all about being great on the phone, after all.
