Part-Time Household Assistant for Older Couple We are looking for a kind, dependable, patient, and positive person to provide daily household assistance and memory care for an older couple. This is a unique role that combines household management, cleaning and organization, meal assistance, some transportation, companionship, and general day-to-day support. The ideal person will have a naturally positive attitude, be patient and calm, and be comfortable working with older adults who may need reminders, encouragement, and a little extra help navigating their day. We are looking for someone who can build a relationship with them while also serving as an extra set of eyes and hands for the family and helping keep their household running smoothly.
Schedule:
Approximately 3-4 hours per day, 5 days per week. Preferred hours are approximately 11:00 AM-3:00 PM or 12:00-4:00 PM. Some flexibility would be helpful depending on appointments, household projects, or activities.
Typical responsibilities may include:
General housekeeping and cleaning to help keep the home clean, comfortable, and organized Laundry, tidying, dishes, changing linens, and other routine household tasks as needed Identifying areas of the home that need attention and addressing them Coordinating household repairs and improvement projects, including scheduling and communicating with electricians, plumbers, carpet cleaners, repair companies, contractors, and other service providers Helping obtain estimates, schedule appointments, follow up with vendors, and keep household projects moving through completion Being present at the home when contractors, service providers, deliveries, or other scheduled visitors arrive Letting the dogs outside and assisting with basic pet-related tasks Setting out breakfast, snacks, and water Light meal preparation or coordinating meal and dinner delivery Helping with reminders and creating simple visual systems to make daily routines easier Driving to doctor's appointments, errands, their family office, lunch, or other local destinations Helping coordinate occasional in-home health services or appointments Communicating regularly with family about how they are doing, the status of household projects, and anything that may need attention Helping with household organization and special projects Encouraging them to get out of the house and participate in activities when appropriate The right person for this role will be: Extremely patient, calm, and difficult to rattle Positive, warm, and encouraging Comfortable with memory care Dependable and consistent Highly organized and good at following through Comfortable coordinating multiple household projects and service providers Proactive and able to notice things that need attention without always being asked Comfortable communicating regularly with family members Comfortable around dogs Comfortable driving older adults locally Able to provide gentle reminders without being controlling or confrontational Creative in finding ways to communicate and establish helpful routines Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of day-to-day household needs Because consistency and familiarity are important, we are looking for someone who can become a trusted and recognizable part of their normal routine. This person will play an important role in helping the couple remain comfortable in their home while giving their family confidence that household needs, appointments, projects, and daily routines are being taken care of.
Important to know:
There is cigarette smoking in the home, so applicants must be comfortable working in an environment where cigarette smoke will be present. Daily uniform will be required to help with familiarity. This is primarily a household-support and household-management position and is not intended to provide skilled medical or nursing care. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with older adults, takes pride in keeping a home organized and well cared for, and is comfortable taking initiative when something needs to be done. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required.
