Direct Support Professional provides compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes and community settings. The DSP assists individuals in achieving independence by providing support with daily living activities, personal care, community integration, and skill development. Responsibilities may include meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, community outings, transportation, and daily progress notes documenting services. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record (if transportation is required). Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings and training. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. CPR, First Aid, and DSP certification or willingness to obtain upon hire. Essential Responsibilities Assist individuals with personal care and daily living activities while promoting dignity, independence, and self-determination. Perform light housekeeping duties, including laundry, bed making, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. Provide transportation to medical appointments, community outings, employment, recreational activities, and other scheduled events, when applicable. Implement individualized goals and support plans developed by the interdisciplinary team. Support individuals in developing life skills, communication, socialization, and community engagement. Monitor the health, safety, and well-being of individuals and promptly report concerns according to agency policy. Complete required documentation, progress notes, and incident reports accurately and within required time frames. Follow all agency policies, HIPAA requirements, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services regulations, and applicable state and federal guidelines. Participate in required training, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development. Preferred Experience One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, behavioral health needs, or other special populations preferred. Experience working in home- and community-based services is highly desirable.
