Direct Support Professional, 7pm-7am, every other weekend The Peninsula Community Care Center - 3.1 Newport News, VA Job Details Part-time From $15 an hour 2 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification First Aid Certification Meal preparation Bathing assistance Meal assistance First aid and CPR Full Job Description Overview Join our dedicated team as a Direct Support Professional working overnight shifts from 7pm to 7am, every other weekend. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, personalized care to individuals with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities, cognitive impairments, and aging-related conditions. Your energy and commitment will help create a safe, supportive environment where residents can thrive and maintain their independence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives while developing valuable skills in caregiving and health support. Duties Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature to ensure resident health and safety Support residents with memory care needs, including Alzheimer's and dementia care strategies, to promote comfort and orientation Operate manual handling equipment like Hoyer lifts safely for resident transfers Administer medications following prescribed protocols and document all medication activities accurately Engage residents in social activities and provide companionship to foster emotional well-being Maintain a clean, safe environment by assisting with light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning common areas and resident rooms Follow all safety procedures including first aid, CPR certification requirements, and safe patient lifting practices in emergency situations Communicate effectively with residents' families and team members to ensure coordinated care plans Support residents during meal preparation and assist with feeding as needed in accordance with dietary guidelines Skills Prior experience in assisted living, nursing homes, or residential care settings is highly preferred Familiarity with medication administration and vital signs monitoring Experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities or cognitive impairments Excellent communication skills for engaging with residents' families and team members Knowledge of infection control practices including cleaning protocols Valid CPR and first aid certifications required; ongoing training encouraged Ability to operate standard passenger vehicles if needed for community outings or appointments This role is perfect for compassionate individuals eager to provide exceptional support while gaining comprehensive experience in senior care, disability services, or long-term residential settings.
