Seeking an outgoing and highly capable part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) for community engagement in Suffolk and the surrounding areas. The ideal candidate must be energetic, socially proactive, and fully competent in managing and redirecting behavioral challenges with professionalism. Key Responsibilities:
Community Integration:
Accompanying individuals to community outings, like shopping, restaurants, or recreational activities.
Skill Development:
Assisting with learning and practicing skills necessary for independent living, such as budgeting, cooking, and using public transportation.
Behavior Support:
Implementing positive behavior support plans and strategies to help individuals manage challenging behaviors.
Advocacy:
Supporting individuals in accessing resources and advocating for their rights and needs within the community.
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate records of services provided, including progress towards goals and any incidents that may occur.
Collaboration:
Working effectively with other professionals, family members, and support staff to ensure coordinated care.
Transportation:
Providing transportation to and from community activities and appointments.
Personal Care:
Assisting with personal hygiene, dressing, and other activities of daily living.
Example Duties:
Shopping:
Accompanying an individual to a grocery store, helping them select items, and using a cash register.
Recreation:
Going to a park, attending a sporting event, or visiting a library with an individual.
Volunteer Activities:
Helping an individual find and participate in volunteer opportunities at a local organization.
Community Events:
Attending community festivals, fairs, or other events with an individual.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills:
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential.
Training:
Training in first aid, CPR, behavior management, and medication administration may be required.
Licensing:
A valid driver's license may be required for transportation duties.
