PSG Technologist Non Registered, Marshall Medical Centers South, PRN, Nights

Overview Under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Director and Sleep Center Medical Director, perform hook-up and diagnostic procedures related to patient care in accordance with the Sleep Center Policy and Procedure manual. Assist with clerical duties including admitting, filing, and record keeping and cleaning. Earn and retain BLS CPR certification. Perform adequate NPSGs/MSLTs/MWTs. Maintain the yearly requirement of Continuing Education Credits as deemed necessary by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). A-STEP certification in Polysomnography is now a requirement and the sole responsibility of the individual technologist. If for some reason the technologist fails to complete ASTEP modules, the employee will be counseled and given a timeframe of adequate completion of the requirement as governed by AASM. The employee will have 2 ASTEP exam attempts within the first 6 months of eligibility to earn a passing exam/certification. If after such period has expired, and /or the candidate fails the exam, the candidate will be terminated. Responsibilities Adherence to hospital/department specific policies >Maintains good attendance record >Arrives to work punctually >Follows dress code >Observes confidentiality >Adheres to safety policies >Participates in continuing education >Follows department of nursing and hospital policy and procedures >Complies with surgery department policy and procedures >Complies with call and staffing assignments Patient Care >Uses the polysomnographic technologist process and abides by all clinical policies/procedures >Assesses the patient once the patient has arrived for sleep testing >Plans patient care in based on testing ordered by sleep staff physician >Documents patient care >Collaborates with other members of the health care team >Educates and Instructs patient and family of sleep testing procedures >Conscientiously and continuously applies polysomnographic technologist principles in patient care >Participates in performance improvement activities Clinical Duties >Administers sleep studies as ordered by sleep staff physician >Functions as a clinical preceptor as necessary >Performs patient care, and operational duties as assigned Care of Environment and equipment >Maintains unit >Maintains equipment Information processing and documentation >Communicates patient information >Documents information >Charges for equipment and supplies >Uses computer system efficiently Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent preferred (i.e. GED) CPR certification prior to working unsupervised Willingness to complete ASTEP course successfully outlined by AASM to reach registry eligibility
