JOB SUMMARY
The Lab Technician under the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Technical Supervisor will coordinate and perform multifaceted administrative, clinical, and clerical functions. The incumbent maintains a pleasant, courteous, and cooperative manner with patients, visitors, and the Center's personnel. This position is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive inventory of clerical and clinical supplies to ensure efficient and effective operations.
LABORATORY
LABORATORY:
Make sure all lab results are in the electronic medical records. Perform routine lab procedures such as but not limited to HbA1c, Urine, Strep A, Glucose, Urine Dip, Urine HCG, PT/INR, etc. Perform phlebotomy on children, adults, and older populations. Perform and document quality controls/quality assurance/maintenance. Monitor inventory levels and reorder supplies as needed. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment. Responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. Notify the provider of pertinent results. Maintain proper records and ensure that results are available in a timely manner. Assist in reconciling initial training, bi-annual training, annual training, follow-up training, and competencies according to CLIA regulations or based on PI, QA, or operation findings. May fill-in site locations for other lab personnel when necessary. Maintain CEU's as required by the laboratory field. Participate in in-house training sessions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. As the lab technician, you will work with multiple providers, centers, and senior staffing to process samples, perform tests, record and analyze results and challenges. 2. Answer telephone and give information to callers, screen calls, and route calls to the appropriate destination in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner. Obtain and record the caller's name, time of call, nature of the business, and person called upon. 3. May assist providers and clients with reconciling billing information deficiencies. 4. Able to express interpersonal teaching skills with excellent verbal and written communication. 5. Assist in laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. 7. Assist in ensuring proficiency testing is ordered, performed, and documented according to regulations. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Performance will be evaluated by the Clinical Laboratory Technical Supervisor or designee annually; wherein an overall satisfactory rating is considered as a minimum acceptable level of performance.
PRIVACY RULE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures. Must successfully complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patient's medical privacy. Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards. 5. HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
The health and safety requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must adhere to safety regulations, personnel policies, and procedures. Safety and Hazard Communication training update is required annually. Knowledgeable of OSHA and CLIA requirements to assure compliance. Maintain yearly health maintenance records by obtaining TB skin testing and completion of the hepatitis series.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate, GED equivalent or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Graduate of an approved Phlebotomy Program or Associate's Degree. Certified or Registered preferred with one (1) or more year laboratory or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience relative to the position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in the above job description. Possess strong human relations skills to deal effectively with patients/visitors in person or via telephone. Possess knowledge of personal computers, keyboarding, and basic software packages such as Microsoft Office and Windows. Must have keyboard experience and have a knowledge of electronic medical records. Possess a higher level of proficiency in the operation of lab equipment. Ability to use the multi-line telephone, copier, adding machine, fax machine, and other office equipment.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPR certification. Phlebotomy Certification or national MLT certification.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
: Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Require the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Require the use of office equipment, such as copiers, computer terminals, and keyboards, telephones, calculators, and fax machines. Require normal vision range. Require frequent standing, sitting, bending, stooping, or stretching. Ability to lift, move or support the weight of client, with assistance.
