Specimen Technician The Specimen Technician is responsible for the accurate collection, labeling, documentation, and handling of patient specimens, primarily urine toxicology samples. This position works closely with patients, providers, clinical staff, and the laboratory to ensure specimens are properly collected and processed.

Duties include:

Collect and process urine toxicology specimens according to office and laboratory protocols. Verify patient identity and ensure specimens are properly labeled and documented. Complete required laboratory requisitions and EHR documentation. Maintain proper specimen handling and chain-of-custody procedures when applicable. Prepare specimens for laboratory pickup and follow up on collection or laboratory issues. Retrieve and upload laboratory results into the patient chart as needed. Maintain specimen collection supplies and keep the collection area clean and organized. Communicate professionally with patients, providers, staff, and laboratory personnel. Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA and office policies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Previous medical office, specimen collection, toxicology, or laboratory experience preferred. Detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and professional. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Able to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Must maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
