Job Summary Organizes and prepares equipment and materials used for chemistry laboratories at the GCC North campus. Maintains equipment and checks for proper storage, effective operation, and preventative maintenance; analyzes laboratory needs and recommends purchase of supplies and equipment; implements and follows safety regulations; handling, storage, and assists with disposal of hazardous materials; consolidate lab materials at conclusion of lab; assists in maintaining SDS (Safety Data Sheets) library and performs periodic safety checks; performs related duties as needed or assigned. Essential Functions 50%

• Prepares and trouble shoots chemistry lab activities.

Prepares individual laboratory programs and determines lab set-ups; prepares and standardizes solutions, organizes materials and equipment required for laboratory classes; replenishes and breaks down materials and equipment for laboratory experiments; maintains clean lab area; assembles equipment and demonstrates use of apparatus; assists Laboratory Coordinator as needed. 30%

• Cleans lab, glassware and other equipment after lab activities. 10%
• Determines requirements for supplies and equipment needed for laboratories; maintains current inventories of chemicals, supplies and equipment; receives and checks in laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintains working relationships with other departments such as M&O, Shipping and Receiving; Security, IT, etc. 10%
• Moves chemicals and hazardous materials from the laboratory to storage areas and determines safe disposal of hazardous chemicals; instructs, implements and enforces safety regulations; analyzes and interprets data; maintains records and files; applies first aid when necessary.

Monthly/weekly safety inspections. Maintains communication with chemistry staff at Main Campus. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree with an emphasis in science. Two years of undergraduate chemistry course work. One year experience preparing college-level chemistry laboratories and using instruments common to chemistry labs (e.g. burets, balances, centrifuges, and spectrometers). Experience prioritizing tasks and working independently without immediate supervision. Experience reading and interpreting written science related documents and communicating effectively. Lab related use of SDS's involving handling and disposal of chemicals. Experience in MS Word and MS Excel. Desired Qualifications Bachelor's of Science degree in chemistry or biology. Two or more years of working experience preparing college level chemistry labs including ability to prepare solutions and media in an academic atmosphere.
