Position Summary Laboratory assistants perform patient specimen collections, performs point-of-care and serology laboratory testing, and process patient specimens for testing in the hospital laboratory or for shipment and testing at reference laboratories. Lab assistants perform many computer tasks, including registering patients, ordering patient tests, logging specimen collections, receipt of specimens from other areas, and reporting of patient results. Lab assistants also perform maintenance tasks and record keeping to meet regulatory requirements. Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent as recognized by an approved government accreditation association. Maintains current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) required or other approved educational programs. Completion of a phlebotomy or lab assistant program, or equivalent training or work experience is required. Ability to use a computer and other office equipment. Ability to type with acceptable speed and accuracy. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form required. Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance. Required to have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job. Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds. Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency. Preferred Qualifications Certification as laboratory assistant or phlebotomist by a nationally recognized certifying organization. Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems. Basic knowledge of system application implementation, enhancement, development and support methods and practices.
