Whether operating complex testing equipment or performing mundane, everyday tasks, your work will help us execute more than 20 million tests each year, allowing us to serve more patients than ever before. This role supports a team dedicated to quality. Laboratory Assistants are utilized to the top of our ability while remaining conscious of our accreditation requirements. In this role you will process samples, perform waived laboratory testing, and direct the workflow within the lab. A caregiver in this role works variable shifts between 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., with a requirement to work at least 1-2 shifts per week. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform various laboratory procedures. Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting, and storing specimens. Operate laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, trouble shooting and minor repairs. Perform Quality Assurance activities. Maintain adequate stock of supplies; performs inventory management of transporting and distributing supplies. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Histology or microbiology lab assistant background Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology Previous experience in a lab
Physical Requirements:
Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation. Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed. Requires frequent sitting or standing.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range Minimum hourly:
$17.95 Maximum hourly: $25.50 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
