Cancer Center Laboratory Job Description Summary:
Position Responsibilities Receives and determines acceptability of specimens correctly matching order with the specimen, using at least two identifiers. Notifies the supervisor or charge person of any mislabeled or missing specimens immediately. Recognizes specimen types that require special handling to enable correct processing the by the technologist. Resolves discrepancies at the time of discovery. Orders tests as needed during downtime per department protocol. Recognizes and cancels duplicate orders. Able to re-print tickets and label specimens with lab generated labels matching patient information using two identifiers. Prepare and label specimen aliquots appropriately. Routes STAT testing to lab workstations in a timely manner. Maintains minimum inventory of supplies to ensure continuous workflow and sufficient supplies for the next day. Answers the telephone within 3 rings identifying self and department. Communicates any unusual occurrences or variations from routine operations to the supervisor or pathologist. Cleans and decontaminates workstation. Documents cleaning of centrifuges and other laboratory equipment as assigned. Receive supplies and restock inventory. Pathology - Control Center. Release patient from the morgue, verifying patient identity and documenting release in the log. Qualifications License/Registration/Certification not applicable Education High School Diploma Experience Previous hosptial or laboratory experience preferred
