A Laboratory Specimen Processor catalogs specimens in a medical laboratory for use by other health care workers, including laboratory technicians, nurses, and physicians. Specimens can include blood samples, bacteria cultures, and even organs. Receives specimens, enters specimen data into a computer system, prepares samples for further laboratory analysis, and transports specimens to other labs and clinical departments.

Job Description

Department Blood Bank Job Summary The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for routine blood product preparation, examination, issuing, and returning of blood products. Required Qualifications
  • Require Phlebotomy certification with a national agency recognized by ACHA and must be current and active, or six (6) months experience working in a blood bank laboratory. Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer demonstrated ability to interact successfully with staff and other healthcare providers and excellent communication skills.
  • Prefer demonstrated knowledge of all relevant computer skills as needed for patient ID system and specimen processing functions.
  • Prefer demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to function in Specimen Processing and Receiving area of the Blood Bank Laboratory.
  • Prefer the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Mandatory Education HS EQ:
High School Diploma, GED or Certificate Preferred Education Required License and Certs Preferred License and Certs FDL:
Valid Driver's License 4
