May perform all levels of testing complexity and analysis on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. Utilize a variety of procedures that may involve numerous detailed tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. Essential Functions Perform phlebotomy from patients by capillary puncture and venipuncture using sterile techniques with proper procedure to prevent trauma, hematoma, and sepsis. This includes pediatric and geriatric collections; age specific considerations apply with proficiency. Follows appropriate procedures for labeling and patient identification Perform routine, special, and automated tests in clinical chemistry using proper technique and equipment. Perform manual microscopic cell identification. Performs and documents proper maintenance on all analyzes. Performs quality control on all equipment with proper documentation. Performs serological kit tests as instructed and follows manufacturer guidelines. Possesses an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their inter-relationships. Can recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives and determine the solutions. Checks inventories and requests supplies, reagents, and materials. Unpacks and stores reagents appropriately. Performs routine blood bank procedures. Show conscientious attention to detail when preparing units for transfusion. Follow guidelines and proper handling of blood products with the electronic inventory and tracking processes. Keeps diligent records and strict attention to procedure for safety. Performs QA processes and documentation as required. Performs other tasks as requested by the Lab Director. Knowledgeable of and complies with the hospital Legal Compliance Program and Policy and Procedures relating to hospital safety. Is aware of and practices good safety habits. Is competent in all phases of their job performance. Complies with Hospital Administration policy and is diligent in the performance of the ideals and standards of KHC. Complies with Infection Control Policies, isolation techniques, personal hygiene and Protection Equipment Standard. Maintains neat, clean work environment. Use all electronic and data equipment and systems following all HIPAA and facility guidelines. Job Requirements AAS degree in Medical Laboratory Science from accredited college is required Certification as a Medical Lab Technician in a recognized laboratory registry organization is desirable. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as scheduled. Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
